California & Florida
Golf in the United States has thrived since the late 19th century when the St. Andrews Club of Yonkers was founded in 1888. It is now widely accepted that the first records of golf being played in the U.S. date back much earlier to 1657 when two drunk men were arrested for hitting balls and breaking windows in Albany, New York!
California Dreaming. No trip to the West Coast would be complete without playing at Pebble Beach and Bandon Dunes. Pebble Beach was designed by Jack Neville and Douglas Grant in a “figure of eight” layout so that as many holes as possible ran along the rugged Monterey coastline and founded by Samuel Morse, a distant cousin of the inventor of the Morse Code. Host of four previous US Opens with Champions including Nicklaus, Watson and Woods it will also host the 2019 US Open.Bandon Dunes was created in the spirit of ancient Scottish links golf. With five distinctly different world-class courses set against the majestic rugged Oregon coast, this is how golf was created in its purest state. A visit to Bandon Dunes alone can make your entire trip but we recommend hoping on a short plane ride to San Francisco and heading down to the Monterey Peninsula. You decide and we’ll help create. We can also arrange a visit to some of the spectacular local wineries after your days golf and if you’re a group we have various ideas and contacts for a private dinner. Just a suggestion. Food for thought if you like.
If you plan to head to Southern California Pelican Hill, a 45-minute drive from Los Angeles International Airport has 36 holes of award-winning Tom Fazio inspired golf overlooking the Pacific Ocean and Torrey Pines, host of Tiger Woods last major triumph offers further spectacular ocean golf on both the North and South courses.
An experience at Kiawah Island, with The Ocean Course hosting the 1991 Ryder Cup and 2012 PGA Championship offers classic South Carolina hospitality with a choice of five championship courses. Rory McIlroy has described the Ocean Course as his favourite Pete Dye design. The resort is also a Virtuoso hotel so we can offer added VIP benefits during your stay. Florida has many fine resorts and public courses to chose from, including TPC Sawgrass (Stadium Course and De’s Valley), Streamsong (Red and Blue), the Blue Monster at Doral, the Naples Ritz-Carlton courses and Innisbrook Copperhead. Stay put in one location or let us design a tour of this golf-rich state. We don’t do packages. We simply create bespoke journeys.
